About The Song
In 1996, Clint Black co-wrote and recorded a song that soon became his tenth No. 1 single. His frequent collaborator Hayden Nicholas helped a lot in the writing of the song titled “Like the Rain.” The song almost debuted at top 40 on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart peaking at No. 42. One month after its release in September 1996, it became the No. 1 song on the country chart. It enjoyed the topmost position for three weeks. Moreover, the single also earned him a Grammy Awards nomination for Best Male Country Vocal Performance in 1997. In 2007, Black re-recorded the song for his album The Love Songs with slight modification, particularly on its tempo. Its lyrics and melody formed a perfect blending which contributed to its commercial success.
Described as a country ballad, “Like the Rain” tells a romantic story of a man who never liked the rain. Such disposition has changed though when he walked through the rain with his lover.
“I never liked the rain until I walked through it with you,”
says the opening line. That alone already speaks a lot about what love can do to a person. In the chorus, the narrator emphasized his disbelief on not liking the rain before. He further elucidated that
“he has fallen for [her] now just like the rain.”
On the verse, the man shows optimism toward stormy days since he is now with his lover.
Employing actual sounds of rain on its album version added authenticity to the song’s theme. Here is a music video of the song for our listening pleasure.

Lyrics
I never liked the rain until I walked through it with you
Every thunder cloud that came was one more I might not get through
On the darkest day there’s always light and now I see it too
But I never liked the rain until I walked through it with you
I hear it falling in the night and filling up my mind
All the heaven’s rivers come to light I see it all unwind
I hear it talking through the trees and on the window pane
When I hear it I just can’t believe I never liked the rain
Like the rain, I have fallen for you and I know just why you
Like the rain, always calling for you, I’m falling for you now
Just like the rain
When the cloud is rolling over, thunder striking me
It’s as bright as lightning and I wonder why I couldn’t see
That it’s always good and when the flood is gone we still remain
Guess I’ve known all along I just belong here with you falling
Like the rain, I have fallen for you and I know just why you
Like the rain, always calling for you, I’m falling for you now
Just like the rain, I have fallen for you
I’m falling for you now just like the rain
And when the night falls on our better days
And we’re looking to the sky
For the winds to take us high above the plains
I know that we’ll find better ways to look into the eye
Of the storms that will be calling
Forever we’ll be falling
Like the rain, I have fallen for you, and I know just why you
Like the rain, always calling for you, I’m falling for you now just
Like the rain, I have fallen for you, and I know just why you
Like the rain, always calling for you, I’m falling for you now just
Like the rain
Like the rain
Like the rain
Like the rain
Like the rain
Like the rain
Like the rain
