About The Song
In 2017, David Lee Murphy’s “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” was released as the lead single to his fifth studio album, No Zip Code. The song is in collaboration with country superstar Kenny Chesney, and it landed on top of Billboard’s Country Airplay chart – making it Murphy’s first No. 1 after more than two decades.
Written by David Lee Murphy with Nashville songwriters Chris Stevens and Jimmy Yeary, “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” delivers a hopeful and reassuring message to its listeners, something very important, especially in these increasingly difficult times.
What’s even more comforting is the song’s party-vibe filled with reggae along with Murphy’s smooth singing style – and then there’s the incalculable Chesney factor.
But behind the scenes, Kenny Chesney actually played an even bigger role than just a duet partner.
Sharing over three decades of friendship, Chesney has recorded plenty of David Lee Murphy songs, including “Live a Little,” “Living in Fast Forward,” “Bar At the End of the World,” and “Til It’s Gone.”
Murphy would frequently send the singer his songs to cut – but this time, Chesney encouraged him to record something other than his song demos. After all, there’s no other perfect moment to put out a record himself than now.
Meanwhile, Chesney was more than grateful to return the favor by contributing on this track. The country star revealed that when Murphy sent him the song, it made him happy and smile. He described the song as “one of those sentiments for the times.” At the end of the day, wouldn’t it be great to slow down and just let go of whatever is holding us?

Lyrics
She rattled the ice in my plastic cup
I said “yes m’am”, fill her up
Tell me something good that I don’t know
‘Cause this world’s been kicking my behind
Life ain’t been a friend of mine
Lately I’ve been feeling kinda low
And she looked back over her shoulder
Pointed at the sign hanging up on the wall
It said
Everything’s gonna be alright
Everything’s gonna be alright
And nobody’s gotta worry ’bout nothing
Don’t go hittin’ that panic button
It ain’t worth spilling your drink
Everything’s gonna be alright
Alright, alright
So I nodded my head and said, “that’s for sure”
Dropped a few bucks in the mason jar
Felt those good old neon vibes on me
And whatever monkey that was on my back
He jumped off just like that
Right into the deep blue sea
And I looked back over her shoulder
Thinking ’bout the sign hanging up on the wall
That said
Everything’s gonna be alright
Everything’s gonna be alright
Nobody’s gotta worry ’bout nothing
Don’t go hitting that panic button
It ain’t near as bad as you think
Everything’s gonna be alright
Alright, alright
There ain’t no doubt it’s gonna work out
Come on, sing it with me
There ain’t no doubt it’s gonna work out
Come on and sing it with me
Everything’s gonna be alright
Everything’s gonna be alright
And nobody’s gotta worry ’bout nothing
Don’t go hitting that panic button
It ain’t near as bad as you think
Everything’s gonna be alright
Alright (is gonna be alright), alright (is gonna be alright)
Everything’s gonna be alright
Alright (is gonna be alright), alright (is gonna be alright)
(Everything’s gonna be alright)
(Is gonna be alright, is gonna be alright)
(Everything’s gonna be alright)
(Is gonna be alright, is gonna be alright)
