About The Song

In 1997, George Strait released “Carrying Your Love with Me” as the second single from the album of the same name. The song was a massive success for the country icon as it ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

On top of that, the song also earned a nomination as the Best Male Country Vocal Performance during the 1998 Grammy Awards.
Written by Steve Bogard and Jeff Stevens, “Carrying Your Love with Me” tells the story of a man who vows to carry the love of his girl with him as he is to leave home for periods of time.

“I’ll have everything I’ll ever need. I’m carryin’ your love with me,” the romantic ballad goes.
In an interview, Bogard and Stevens gave a glimpse of how the song came to life. Bogard revealed that it was actually Stevens who thought of “Carrying Your Love with Me” as a title. However, it took six months for the duo to finally write the song. That moment came when Bogard finally had an idea for the “beat up leather bag” metaphor.

From there, the song pretty much wrote itself within just a few hours. Eventually, it landed in Strait’s lap, and everything was history.

In 2022, “Carrying Your Love with Me” regained popularity and garnered new attention – thanks to burgeoning country artist David Morris, who released his country rap rendition that contains an altered sample of the chorus. Morris’ version went viral on the super popular social media app TikTok. Well, it only goes to show the lasting impact of George Strait’s songs.

Lyrics

Baby all I got’s this beat up leather bag
And everything I own don’t fill up half
But don’t you worry ’bout the way I pack
All I care about is gettin’ back real soon
A goodbye kiss is all I need from you
‘Cause I’m carryin’ your love with me
West Virginia down to Tennessee
I’ll be movin’ with the good Lord’s speed
Carryin’ your love with me
It’s my strength for holdin’ on
Every minute that I have to be gone
I’ll have everything I’ll ever need
I’m carryin’ your love with me
On a lonely highway stuck out in the rain
Darlin’ all I have to do is speak your name
The clouds roll back and the waters part
The sun starts shinin’ in my heart for you
You’re right there in everything I do
‘Cause I’m carryin’ your love with me
West Virginia down to Tennesse
I’ll be movin’ with the good Lord’s speed
Carryin’ your love with me
It’s my strength for holdin’ on
Every minute that I have to be gone
I’ll have everything I’ll ever need
I’m carryin’ your love with me
It’s my strength for holdin’ on
Every minute that I have to be gone
I’ll have everything I’ll ever need
I’m carryin’ your love with me
I’m carryin’ your love with me
I’m carryin’ your love with me
West Virginia down to Tennessee
I’ll be movin’ with the good Lord’s speed
Carrying’ your love with me
