Whenever a country fan hears the song “Troubadour,” the first thing they think of is George Strait. The King of Country gave the song an iconic status after releasing it in 2008 as the second single and title track from his album of the same name.

Surprisingly, “Troubadour” is not one of Strait’s No. 1 hits. In fact, “Troubadour” never managed to gallop any higher than the seventh spot on the chart. Still, it is a fan favorite and considered to be one of Strait’s signature pieces.

It was also nominated for Best Male Country Vocal Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards.
Written by Leslie Satcher and Monty Holmes, “Troubadour,” tells the tale of a man who reflects on his life as a troubadour and feels content with what he has accomplished.

“Sometimes I feel like Jesse James, still trying to make a name. Knowing nothings gonna change what I am. I was a young troubadour when I rode in on a song. And I’ll be an old troubadour when I’m gone,” the song goes, featuring Vince Gill singing the background vocals.

In several interviews, George Strait revealed that the song resonates deeply with him because he sees himself as a troubadour of sorts.

In August 2008, he released the music video for the song. Directed by Trey Fanjoy, and edited by Scott Mele, the song’s video alternates between footage of Strait singing and shots of archived photos from various points in his career. This is his first music video since “The Seashores of Old Mexico” in 2006, which Fanjoy also directed.

George Strait has indeed remained a force to be reckoned with on the country music charts within his career of more than three decades. Unfortunately, the King of Country has postponed his upcoming concert at Notre Dame Stadium, in South Bend, Indiana, moving the planned August 15 show to August 7, 2021. The show, dubbed “Strait to South Bend,” was set to feature Chris Stapleton and Brothers Osborne as Strait’s opening acts.

Also, Strait has rescheduled his Strait Summer show in Minneapolis at U.S. Bank Stadium from August 22 to July 31, 2021. That show was also scheduled to include Stapleton as well as Little Big Town and more. All the opening acts are still on the bill for the rescheduled dates.
